During earlier times, people use to use manure as cow dung, used vegetable manure and other sort of natural fertilisers for their plants. The cow dung as is easily available, people use to collect and add them to the soil beneath their plants and crops to help develop the plants. This process of adding cow dung used to be repeated every few days and crops would gradually develop.

Nowadays, artificial fertiliser or inorganic fertilisers are used which not only develop plants and crops but there are a type of fertiliser which helps in ripening of the fruits and vegetables and make them more fruitful and plump. Fertilisers are added to the soil where the plants are sown which also helps in protecting plants from pest infect. Powdered fertilisers are mixed in the soil and it helps in increasing the quality of the soil. The liquid fertilisers come in sprays which are sprayed into the crops and plants. There is also organic fertiliser which contains organic plant or animal matter. Organic fertilisers include manure and compost fertilisers which are naturally produced. Apart from that, there is also the in organic fertiliser, which are artificially procured and used for plant development. For the use of inorganic fertiliser and synthetic fertilisers, a particular soil test is done to determine the soil quality. This is done to ensure that fertiliser burn doesn’t occur due to over application of fertilisers in crops. ‘Fertiliser burn’ caused by over use of the fertiliser in the plant or crop includes the plant dying out or the leaves dying out gradually.

Organic fertiliser is helpful as they improve the soil quality and its lifespan. It also develops the long term productivity of the soil. The organic fertiliser is used to develop the soil quality and improve the productivity of the soil, whereas the inorganic fertiliser is used to drive away pests and protect it from infestation. However, organic and inorganic fertiliser also has negative effects as heavy soil acidification adding to global warming due to methane emissions.
