One of the best places to live in the world is Austin. If you don’t believe this, scan the pages of a Money magazine issue in 2006 and see for yourself. Austin is a great place to live in if you want to stay in a green city. MSN labeled Austin as the “Greenest City in America” because its residents exert a lot of effort in making sure that their lifestyle is sustainable.
Austin’s climate is classified as humid tropical, which means that you can expect mostly hot weather during summer and a moderately cold climate during winter. Summer in Austin is not only hot, but also humid, with an average temperature of about 90 degrees F or 32 degrees C.
The summer months of Austin are June to September. Temperature usually falls to 100 degrees F or 38 degrees C on a daily basis. On September 5, 2000, Austin experienced the hottest day in history at 112 degrees F or 44 degrees C. There are about 198 days where Austin experiences a temperature of 80 degrees F or 27 degrees C. Another temperature of over 90 degrees F or 32 degrees C is experienced for another 111 days.
Sometimes, Austin has a dry and mild weather even when it is already winter. On the average, Austin experiences a temperature reaching below 45 degrees F or 7 degrees C for 88 days. There will be another 24 days when Austin won’t experience a temperature drop below the freezing point at all.
To date, the lowest temperature in Austin was recorded on January 31, 1949 at -2 degrees F or -19 degrees C. Austin rarely experiences a snowfall, though once a year or so, the city may be hit with an ice storm. When this happens, the roads may be frozen and the city may be shut down for a day.
As you can see, extreme weather conditions may be experienced in Austin brought about by climate changes. It may be comforting to know that thunderstorms and tornadoes are rare in Austin and in the end, the living condition in the city is not primarily defined by its climate or weather.
