In regards to the area of astrobiology, exobiology or extraterrestrial life, the profession most related is that. I have frequently said that in regards to UFOs, for instance, astronomers are from their league because the area of UFOs isn’t a suitable astronomic area therefore comment upon in an expert capacity and to analyze. Astronomers, being individual and all that don’t constantly draw a line in the sand between what they consider personally, without advantage of research and academic study and what they consider through academic study and research.
What is interesting is the consultant started off sceptical on the bona fides of the area, but came around to the view that UFOs were serious company that is scientific.
WHAT ASTRONOMERS CAN, SHOULD, CANNOT AND must not REMARK ON SEEING EXTRATERRESTRIAL LIFE
Chance of Extraterrestrial Life: Astronomers can tell us about how many stars there are per galaxy and the type of stars they are and the number of galaxies there are in the observable universe and about what the typical solar system might be like, it is elements and elements, but that is as far as it goes. When it comes down to whether life evolves and originates on these extra-solar planets including wisdom and up through and technologies is an exercise left to anthropologists and biologists.
Astronomers are doing an excellent job in finding planets orbiting around stars that are other than simply our Sun. They’re able to pretty much estimate, perhaps guesstimate, orbital features and their size. They are also able to discover what the atmospheric components are – if any. Nonetheless, what exactly that makeup signifies – parts maybe in chemical disequilibrium indicative – is an evaluation left to biochemists and chemists.
Source of Panspermia and Life: Astronomers don’t have any academic bona fides that enables them to grow lyrical on these issues. Perhaps terrestrial life originated on Earth; perhaps it came from outer space (panspermia) via spores (or some such), even if extrapolated to abodes someplace out there, but that is not an area that is part and parcel of astronomy.
Transition from Uncomplicated (Unicellular) to Complicated (Multicellular) Life: Any pontificating with this area is just their individual view and pure. Astronomers would be pissed if evolutionary biologists got press coverage for remarking on Black Holes’ astrophysics astronomers appear to feel effective at practicing biology, provided that it is called astrobiology, extraterrestrial biology or biology in outer space.
Evolutionary Rise of Intelligence, Technology and Civilizations’ Longevity: Any such conjectures are left to anthropologists as these matter autumn way, way, manner beyond the domain of astronomy that is academic.
Any speculation on alternative biochemistries (substitute silicon for carbon; ammonia for water; etc.), in fact the entire definition of what life itself is, is best left to biochemists and associated disciplines.
Astronomers have an excellent handle on what they are able to tell us about astronomical things and what originating photons are like. Therefore, astronomers need to be able to see anomalous photons – unnaturally originating photons with the emphasis on the artificiality. If astronomers spot emitted photons then the chances are fairly great they’ve discovered an extraterrestrial intelligence, an intelligence that’s the potential to emit photons that were created – like radio signals, optical (laser) signs, etc. Needless to say there have been false alarms. Pulsars were first believed to be man-made signs; ditto some quasars; and there were those who believed they’d picked up radio broadcasts in the early years. Yet, once anomalous photons have been discovered by astronomers and concluded they came from an extraterrestrial technological culture any extrapolation from that lives with linguistics specialists, anthropologists, and other social science professors and is out of the bailiwick.
First Contact: While there are plenty of terrestrial cases astronomers are not anthropologists, sociologists or historians and therefore should not professionally suppose as being all knowing on the topic of extraterrestrial first contact.
PLACES WHERE ASTRONOMERS should ACTUALLY BUTT OUT
Visitors Astronomers are qualified to inform us about the enormous spaces and our neck of the woods and the vastness. But, the skill of complex technological extraterrestrial civilizations to transverse those spaces is an issue for engineers not astronomers.
Astronomers feel fairly able to grow lyrical on the area. Nevertheless, any views expressed by astronomers are actually private, not professional ones, and have no more validity by Josephine Citizen and Joe.
Abductions, or uFO abductions (the ‘greys’) are more properly the state and, fall outside the state .
Government systems related to investigating UFO censorship, UFOs or coverups fall outside the state of professional astronomy. Astronomers are not specialists in political science, national security issues, defence protocols and other related areas.
Close Encounters of all kinds including geophysical, physiological, electromagnetic, earth hint instances, autumn outside the state of professional astronomy.
Evaluation and comment on photos and UFO pictures fall outside the state of professional astronomy.
Strange motivations (i.e. – why do not they land on the White House yard, etc.) fall outside the state of professional astronomy. At best this is an issue for psychologists and anthropologists and sociologists in regards to what moves an unfamiliar or unfamiliar culture neither is anyone else actually qualified for that matter.
Or, maybe where statements by so called ‘contactees’ contradict understood astronomic data. UFOs are the state of meteorologists, specialists in atmospheric optical phenomena and optics, shrinks, etc.
Early Astronauts: Astronomers will not be archaeologists, anthropologists, historians or generally conversant with mythologies, and so should steer clear of anything related to the area of “ancient astronauts”.
Crop circles drop outside the state even though crop circles have likely nothing regarding ETI.
The animal (wildlife and livestock) mutilation occurrences drop outside the state of professional astronomy.
Other related anomalous lights and ball lightning (like the Australian Min-Min Lights) drop outside the state of astronomers or professional astronomy who aren’t geophysicists.
Again, any comments by astronomers on these problems quasi- when crisis comes crisis connected with ETI are, when all is said and done, are private, not professional comments.
