In statistics, the mean is defined as average of the group of values.

Compute the mean for following values.

The values are 3.4, 4.8, 8.7, 7.6.

Solution:

The given data are,

3.4, 4.8, 8.7, 7.6.

Formula for mean = ‘(“Sum of the given values”)/(“Total number of given values”)’

= 3.4 + 4.8 + 8.7 + 7.6.

= 24.5

Here we give 4 values. So, divide by 4 values.

= ‘24.5/4’

= 6.13

Answer: 6.13.

Median in statistics:

In statistics, the median is described as middle value of the given value.

If we find the median value, we should arrange the given values in ascending order.

Example of Median:

Find the median in the following numbers.

14, 25,33,55,61.

Solution:

Step 1:

The given data are 14, 25,33,55,61.

Step 2:

We should arrange the given values in ascending orders.

14, 25,33,55,61.

In this sorting order we have a middle value.

The median value is 33.

Mode in statistics:

In statistics, the mode is defined as, the repeated value in the given data.

Example:

The given data are 12.5, 15.7, 18.6, 19.8, 15.7.

In this given values we have a repeated value.

Here 15.7 are occurred two times.

Mode = 15.7.

Range in Statistics:

In statistics, the range is defined as various between large value and small value.

Example:

Find the range for following values 117,198,176,168.

Here, large value is 198.

Small value is 117.

We have a formula for range.

Range= Large value – small value.

Range = 198 – 117.

Range = 81.
