Ethics is something seriously neglected in our contemporary society. Today, we are so often driven by the spirit of the age and our lives are so busy, that we literally forget to be humans. Where and when ethics and behavior go out the window is a matter of an endless discussion. We forget about the good old days when we had deep respect (or at least our ancestors had it) towards other people, accompanied with ethics.
Ethics today is a shameful word in most cases. Unfortunately this is the sad truth about it and we are unable to even touch its meaning in terms of what it once meant. Once, people died for ethics, moral principles and standards. Today the world seems to be controlled by immorality, which stays behind every corner.
In our modern society, ethics is a dirty, meaningless word. Once, the key for earning a job position was the ethics – this was the determinative factor about whether one would be employed or unemployed. It took the attention of the boss than anything else. When they found that the ethics of an employee are worthy, he was given priority over the others. Ethics made men and women get married and created the most beautiful and the most stable families. Money-making and chasing richness at any cost, turned the society into a machine.
* The day we are born our parents indulge in efforts to groom us; basically this grooming is in respect to teach us ethics. Ethics are the code of conduct to determine whether doing something is right or wrong. The term ethics also suggest determining and following the right course of action.
* Ethics, which are the code of conduct, exist everywhere. If you work in an office, there are ‘work place ethics’ which suggest abiding the rules and norms of workplace. If you are sitting in a classroom, classroom ethics apply upon you. In the same way, if someone is driving on the road they are bound to abide the driving ethics.
* Ethics are important contributors in a disciplined human being’s life. According to Michael J. Meyer “Ethics has to do with what my feelings tell me is right or wrong.” Thus, ethics are the code of conduct-generated keeping in view what is right and wrong. Ethics merely should not be perceived as the right mode of actions. Abiding by the ethics, simplify life and help governing oneself in the right direction. In conclusion, we can say ethics are actions mutually agreed to be accepted in accordance with the principle of being morally and spiritually right.
The study of ethics is something a bit off putting because so many differing theories often appear to contradict each other and thus produce confusion rather than guidelines. But an appreciation of the complexity of ethics is valuable in offsetting. Following ethics in any profession will make you progress in the profession as well as a human being. After all, that is what a person can do for the sake of humanity.
